Howard Gillette
Howard Gillette is Professor Emeritus of History at Rutgers University-Camden and co-editor of the on-line Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia. At Rutgers, he was the founder and first director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities and author of the award-winning Camden after the Fall: Decline and Renewal in a Post-Industrial City (2005). His most recent book, The Paradox of Urban Revitalization: Progress and Poverty in America's Postindustrial Era (2022) concludes with a chapter on Newark stretching from the 1967 uprising to the present. He is co-editor, with Carolyn Adams of The Greater Philadelphia Region, to be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2026.
